ARMORY AMORE: “I’m not doing interviews, no,” Fergie said at Marc Jacobs’ show Monday night at the New York State Armory. “It’s Valentine’s Day; it’s the start of our date,” she continued, unable to stop herself. What was the next stop?
“I don’t know; it’s a surprise,” she said with a smile as she gestured to husband Josh Duhamel sitting beside her. Before things could go any further, a handler enforced the no-press stricture. Later, as the models paced by, Fergie kept her hand on Duhamel’s thigh. The couple tapped their feet together to the show’s soundtrack, a loop of Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People.”
While it wasn’t quite the Madonna-and-Gaga days, there was something of a celebrity renaissance at Jacobs’ show. Michael Pitt, Leighton Meester, Sofia Coppola, Vanessa Hudgens and Karen Elson lined one side of the runway. Martha Stewart, Terry Richardson and Whoopi Goldberg sat along the other. “It’s gorgeous,” Goldberg said of the set, which included red mood lighting, large quilted columns and plenty of mirrors. “It makes me hungry and it makes me want to lay down.”
In the rush after Jacobs’ bow, Hudgens gave a quick assessment (positive), and explained her own Valentine’s plans. “My best friend is here in town and her friend is in a band so I think we’re going to go check them out,” she said. “I’m not sure what they’re called. Just going with the flow.”
As the crowd began to filter back onto Lexington Avenue, a few stragglers remained on the runway. Anna Dello Russo, who wore a black and gold bodice and two-foot black tutu, posed for photographers next to one of the runway columns. A girl of about six or seven, who wore a shaggy white fur vest and bright pink tights, looked on in wonder.
“You like it?” Russo asked.
The girl’s eyes went wide. She nodded her head.
